Suicide Prevention Week

Sadly, in the United States, a person commits suicide every 11 minutes

Suicide was the second leading cause of death among individuals between the ages of 10-14 and 25-34, the third leading cause of death among individuals between the ages of 15-24, and the fourth leading cause of death among individuals between the ages of 35 and 44.

September is National Suicide Prevention Month and this year, I introduced ACR 135 to proclaim the week of September 4, 2022, through September 10, 2022, as Suicide Prevention Week in California to raise awareness of this public health issue.

Every time a person commits suicide, we are robbed of their potential to be a part of our community. We must do everything in our power to support and uplift those experiencing mental health hardships and help them access the help they need.

A new Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Crisis Hotline is now available nationwide.

Calling or texting 988 will connect you directly with a trained, compassionate counselor who will listen, provide support, and connect you to the appropriate resources. This service is free, confidential, and available 24 hours/7 days a week.
