We have a long way to go to improve public safety in California, but I am proud to introduce my 2022 Public Safety Bill Package to start some important conversations and make a difference where we can.  AB 1665 would make the crime of human trafficking of a child a violent felony and count towards California's Three Strikes law. Human trafficking is one of the world's fastest-growing criminal enterprises. The National Human Trafficking Resource Center Hotline receives more reports on human trafficking victims from California than any other state. Nonprofit groups estimate there has been a 185…
Right now, legislation is quickly making its way through the legislature that will dramatically change healthcare in the State of California.AB 1400 would create a government-run single-payer system called CalCare. Its companion measure, ACA 11, is its funding mechanism which would, with the approval of the voters, amend California’s Constitution to impose unprecedented tax hikes. If these pass, the government will be in charge of your health coverage. If that happens, here are some things to consider. Government-run health coverage would: Eliminate private insurance Eliminate Medicare…
This week I was proud to introduce my 2022 Veterans Bill Package to offer simple solutions to ensure California’s Veterans receive the benefits they have earned. AB 1629 seeks to relieve the children and spouses of our great men and women in uniform from the undue burden of taxed Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) payments. Much like a life insurance policy, SBPs are an optional benefit that military service members may opt to pay into. After their death, these benefits are considered a taxable income source. This bill would make the first $20,000 of payments from SBP tax exempt each year.…
Yesterday, the governor released his proposed $286 billion budget spending plan for this year. That is $23.9 billion more than last year. This “blueprint” includes: An additional $2.7 billion for various state COVID-19 response efforts $1.2 billion over two years for forest health and fire prevention  $750 million for immediate drought response $1.5 billion over two years for affordable housing development $2 billion over two years for investments to address homelessness $285 million over three years for grants to bolster local law enforcement responses to organized retail theft $119…
Today is the first day of the 2022 legislative session. That means new bill proposals, new budget discussions, and new business being discussed in Sacramento. It has been my absolute honor and pleasure to represent you and our 67th district this past year, and I am ready to tackle all the hard work that lies ahead.   My priority has always been listening to your needs and fighting for the issues and concerns of our communities.   In 2021, my team assisted over 2000 constituents with resolving issues with state government agencies including the Department of Motor Vehicles, the Franchise Tax…
The New Year is almost here! While many of us plan on gathering with friends and family to celebrate, please remember to stay safe by using a designated driver, public transportation, or a rideshare service. New Year’s Eve has been labeled “the most dangerous night on U.S. roads,” and on average, over 300 people die in drunk-driving related crashes during the New Year holiday season. As a former first responder, I have seen the tragedy of drunk and impaired driving firsthand. I have felt the frustration that such heartbreak could have been prevented. During this legislative session, I was…
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!   Wishing you and your loved ones a joyous, healthy, and safe holiday season.    May you have the opportunity to create wonderful new memories with your family and friends.   It is a privilege to serve you and our 67th District. Thank you.
The state could be holding some of your money! The California State Controller's Office has close to $10 billion in unclaimed property. California law requires banks, insurance companies, corporations, and other entities to submit their customers’ property to the state when there has been no activity for a period of time. California safeguards this lost or forgotten property as long as it takes to reunite it with the rightful owners. Common types of unclaimed property include bank accounts, stocks, bonds, uncashed checks, insurance benefits, wages, inheritance, and safe deposit box contents.…
Today is Small Business Saturday!   Consider exploring your hometown for that perfect cup of coffee, holiday shopping, and locally sourced goods!   Small Businesses are truly the lifeblood of every community. They are the number one supporters of kids athletics and employ the majority of Californians.   When you decide to shop small, not only do you support a small business and a dream, but you uplift our community at the same time.   If you cannot support a small business by purchasing goods or services, consider writing a positive review online, following them on social media, and…
I want to wish you and your family a warm and Happy Thanksgiving!  This year, I am grateful for the privilege to live in and serve this great country and our 67th District.  As we gather, let us also honor and thank the brave men and women serving in our U.S. Armed Forces as they fight to preserve our freedoms here and abroad. We salute them for their service and sacrifice. Please keep them and their families in your thoughts.  From my family to yours, wherever and however you may be celebrating, have a blessed Thanksgiving.
